US-Iran tensions drive up raw material costs, triggering price hikes across the adhesive tape & stretch film packaging industry

Escalating US-Iran military conflicts disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and destabilize global energy supply chains. International crude oil prices surge sharply, lifting costs across the petrochemical sector. As core feedstocks for tape and stretch film, PP and PE resin prices skyrocket, with some raw materials jumping over 30% and squeezing packaging manufacturers’ profit margins severely.

Raw materials account for over 40% of total costs in this industry. Upstream products including BOPP film and jumbo tape rolls have seen price hikes of nearly 50% in some regions within a single month. Fast inventory depletion and expensive new purchases put packaging firms at risk of shrinking profits or even losses. While strategies like price locking and bulk buying ease short-term pressure, cost pass-through is inevitable in the long run.

As a packaging supplier, we have to adjust prices for our core products including adhesive tapes and stretch films to sustain consistent quality and stable deliveries. This price revision is caused solely by higher raw material and logistics expenses, rather than rising market demand. We have absorbed part of the extra costs via internal efficiency improvements, yet the external cost surge requires shared adjustment with our partners.

Given persistent uncertainty in the Middle East, raw material prices may keep rising if conflicts persist. We recommend our clients arrange purchasing plans in advance and build up safety stock to hedge against future price volatility. We will closely monitor market trends and optimize our supply chain to deliver cost-effective packaging products with guaranteed quality.
